Naomi and Marcus Williams run Williams Sport Horses, a small Hanoverian breeding farm established in 2009, which is situated in Lisle, just north of Alliston ON, Canada. We are conveniently located about 1 hour north of Toronto Pearson Airport. Our focus is on producing top quality foals and young horses that will be successful upper level show horses, with amateur friendly temperaments.
Naomi has been competing in dressage, hunter/jumper and eventing for 25 years. Now Naomi primarily focuses on dressage and starting our young horses to ensure they get a confident, strong foundation, and are happy athletes for their future show careers. Marcus assists with the starting of youngsters and daily handling, and can always be found doing renovations and carpentry projects to ensure the farm runs smoothly. We have a sandring and access to trails for hacking, with 15 acres of paddock space for our young horses to roam and grow. The farm is a peaceful place for both horses and riders, with a friendly atmosphere.
Our focus is on breeding dressage horses. Our broodmares are a wonderful group of mares who have been outstanding producers for us. Although we are a small breeder in numbers, we frequently produce foals who shine at their Hanoverian inspections, receiving Gold Medal status, top 10 in Canada foals, and Premium status mares in their performance tests once they are riding age. We breed for amateur friendly temperaments with exceptional pedigrees and movement that would also suit professionals. All of our mares are tested and are not carriers of the WFFS gene. We pair our mares with the best international quality stallions who we think will compliment our mares in conformation, movement , temperament and type. We often choose tried and proven FEI sires, or young up and coming ones that we see special potential in.
Our mares enjoy large paddock turn out and a leisurely life together, while receiving the best feed and care to ensure healthy mares and safe foal development. All of our foals are handled daily from birth, receive their vaccinations and deworming, and are evaluated shortly after birth by a farrier who specializes in foal growth and development. We want our foals and young horses to be easy to handle by their new families, so we ensure consistent handling, picking up feet, grooming, learning to tie and/or cross tie, trailer loading, and handling by vets/farriers. While still with their mothers we often stable them overnight, and after they're weaned we stable them overnight until they are yearlings to ensure they are comfortable in stalls. We try and make the weaning process easier by having the mares and foals in paddocks beside each other, so they can see each other over the fence during weaning, and have found this reduces the stress and anxiety for everyone. We have had many happy customers who have reported to us how easily their youngster has adapted to their new environment and routine.
